Question about Buffyverse vampires
Do vampires have hygenic needs? Do they use the bathroom? Do they need to shower? I don't think I ever saw Angel or Spike using the bathroom or taking a shower.

If you recall in Season Seven, Xander complained about Spike leaving wet towels on the bathroom floor. Plus, Buffy complained about crazy Spike not showering. Now on the bathroom issue, the only demon who we saw using one was the chap at the Wolfram & Hart Halloween party.

Thank you! I missed that Xander quote entirely and I claim to be the biggest Spander fan! So, vampires do take a shower but they don't use the toilet.

I don't believe they need to use the bathroom (as in toilet), no. I do think they still shower though. It's been awhile since I've re-watched either series, so I'm sure there's other people that are more helpful than I am, but I'm sure they still need to wash the monster goo off after hunting baddies. =)

Good point. What do you think about the food Spike eats sometimes? Wouldn't he need to use the toilet?

I agree. This is a good point.

I wonder how they manage to shave without looking at the mirror.

To answer the shower question, in "Rm w/ a Vu", Angel was in the shower when Cordelia came over with all her luggage to stay at his place because her own apartment was infested with roaches. He went to answer the door still soaking wet, a towel around his waist.

As to the toilet question, my theory is that they only have to use the toilet if they eat normal human food (like Spike often does).

Thank you. This makes sense.

That makes sense. I was thinking, whatever mystic digestive processes that convert the blood they take in to energy for their mystically animated bodies might also work on other matter that they ingest. But nothing but blood sustains them, right? When Spike eats Weetabix he must just be feeding his taste. So that suggests nothing but blood is processed, so anything else ingested must go unused and be excreted.

Also he left Faith alone for four minutes while he showered in "Sanctuary", and had to take a shower in "She".

...So what if I pay special attention to these moments.

From episode 706 ("Him"):

You're gonna live in that small room over there. I know it looks like a closet, but it's a room now. (Buffy and Dawn follow Xander into the apartment) You're not gonna touch my food. I take the first shower in the morning, and if I use up all the hot water, (show Spike standing at the doorway) that's your tough noogies. (to Buffy) And I hate this plan. (to Spike) Are you keeping up, or do you need some kind of English-to-ConstantPainInMyAss translation?

I remember them taking showers 'off screen' and sometimes making an offhand comment about how the demon blood burns

Isn't there a scene with Harmony brushing her teeth?

I warn you that my view on this os very gross.

Vampires are dead - their bodies no longer work the way humans do. Since they get no nutrients from food, why would their digestive systems work? So, whatever goes in comes out the same way, completely unchanged. (I actually once read a funny fic about the factthat vampires can recycle their beer as a result. )

Isn't there a scene in AtS S5 where Angel is getting out of the shower and Eve shows up?
